Competition E15

The municipality of Rotterdam has selected five locations for the 15th edition of Europan. The selected locations are exemplary for the tasks that Rotterdam faces. The city is popular, many people want to live here. In order to provide them good accommodation, over the next ten years 50,000 homes have to be built. Rotterdam aims to grow within the boundaries of the city, including the selected locations: Visserijplein, Kop Dakpark, Vierhavenspark, Brainpark I and Groot IJsselmonde. Each location faces its own challenges, but in the end all five need to become attractive urban spaces with a positive impact on their surroundings.

Radical renewal of spatial policy

For Rotterdam, participation in Europan 15 NL is also an opportunity to test the Concept Omgevingsvisie (Concept Environmental Strategy) in practice. This radical renewal of spatial policy calls for an integrated approach to the stated assignments, with important themes, besides productivity, health, inclusiveness, circularity and compactness. Participants need to act within the context of the Concept Omgevingsvisie, so that the five locations actually form a test ground for innovative spatial solutions that accelerate sustainable socio-economic developments.
